Bay (Vanessa Marano) and Tank (Max Adler) have been hanging out a lot lately. I love his character. He’s so sweet and helpful. Why don’t guys like that exist in real life? Where can I find one? After meeting him, Daphne (Katie LeClerc) convinces Bay that he probably has a crush on her. Bay immediately begins to worry about how to handle it. Hold up. Why exactly is this a worry? He’s a catch! And he hasn’t cheated on you yet. When Daphne pesters Bay to tell him how she feels, Bay says “It took you like 8 years to be honest with Emmett.” Love the season 1 shout-out.
Daphne is worried about Sheree when she shows up to the carpool with a bruise. Daphne doesn’t know what to think when she sees a fight between Sheree’s mom and her mom’s boyfriend. Daphne and Regina assume the worst when Sheree takes off with Daphne’s car and doesn’t return. But it’s not what they think. Sheree’s mom is mentally ill and Sheree doesn’t want the help she so obviously needs.
The parents are busy again this week. John (D.W. Moffett) and Kathryn (Lea Thompson) both offer to change their trips to help Toby (Lucas Grabeel) move in to his new place. Where were these offers last week? John and Kathryn could have totally avoided that fight they had. Kathryn travels to New York to meet with a book editor who shuts down her idea after about 30 seconds. Pouty Kathryn is really annoying. But she picks herself back up eventually. While out to dinner with Enzo (Alec Mapa) and his friends, Kathryn is checked out by another woman. This prompts her to remember a time in her marriage where she “experimented”. The book editor loves the idea and wants to pitch it to publishers as “50 Shades of Grey” meets baseball.
John is just as busy…although he may not be happy about it. With Kathryn out of town, he’s spending some time catching up with Nikki’s mom. Toby’s wife Nikki is still in Peru and her mother misses her and is bored without her. After a night of drinks, she and John kiss. Even worse? Regina (Constance Marie) sees it all go down. How long until she tells someone what she saw?
Toby has no idea that Nikki wants to stay in Peru for 6 more months. Their new marriage is not getting off to a good start. It appears he’s going to be lonely in that new apartment of his. He’s distracting himself with coaching the field hockey team. Bay learns that she needs to expand her interests for her college application and begs Toby to let her back on the team. At practice, Toby says “Get your head in the game!” and High School Musical fans everywhere freak out.
Tank offers to help Bay practice for her new job as goalie. There are lots of jokes about sticks and balls and the child in me is giggling. Tank even shows up to Bay’s game with a bunch of his buddies to cheer her on. What a great friend! At the after party, Bay decides to just be clear about how she feels for Tank. It’s so awkward! Why does she need to say anything?
Bay appears to immediately regret her decision and runs after Tank to stop him from leaving. Unfortunately, Bay trips on the carpet and crashes into a beer bottle, slicing open her hand. Based on the reaction from the EMT, I’m guessing poor Bay is going to struggle with the use of her hand in the future. Will she be able to continue her art??
