It’s another week and another episode of MTV’s Catfish. This week, we head to Florida to meet Nick. He’s 18 and wants to meet his first love, Melissa. His first crush, really. They’ve been talking for 6 and a half years. Melissa lives in Iowa and not only has a boyfriend, but she’s living with him. That’s a bit of a red flag. An even bigger red flag? Tila Tequila brought them together.
Catfish Nick and Melissa Recap:
Nick is in a bit of a hurry. He wants to meet Melissa before he moves to Texas for school. Nick reveals that he has video chatted with Melissa before but it was dark so, really, it could go either way.
The Search
After the initial search, Melissa seems like a real girl. The guys are confused that she has no pictures of her with her boyfriend. After searching through her Facebook, the guys think she might have a girlfriend. Their only proof of that is one goofy picture of her kissing another girl.
They are more concerned and fixated on heavier pictures of her. I’m surprised by the bluntness with which the guys are pointing out her heavier body once they discover a body shot. But I suppose that’s standard in these episodes lately. Here’s hoping for a better twist by the end of the episode.
They call a friend of hers who confirms that Melissa used to love Nick. Why the past tense?
Nick “doesn’t want to be an asshole” but “she’s bigger” than he thought. They’re acting like she’s obese. If anything, the deal breaker is the lip ring. It’s poorly done.
The Meet Up
The guys contact Melissa who reveals she was in treatment for self harm and Nick was the only one there for her. While she is in a complicated relationship, she would love to meet Nick. She’s just scared of rejection. The guys respond to this by telling her outright that they showed him her body. So much fixation on that tonight. But either way, we’re heading to Iowa.
Melissa walks out and Nick immediately says “Oh shit” and “Oh My God.” I can’t tell if it’s because she’s bigger but she is actually pretty cute.
Max immediately calls out her body again. Sheesh. They’re really pushing this aren’t they?
She also reveals she is completely straight and the kiss was a stage kiss.
Nick doesn’t care about the things she lied about and wants to see where things go. He still has feelings for her but she still has feelings for her boyfriend. Girl needs to make up her mind because I’m bored.
Nev and Max go to her boyfriend Olin’s house to talk to Melissa. I’m surprised Olin exists. He doesn’t want the relationship label and wants to be single. But she’s beautiful and he’s in love with her. They are a confusing bunch.
This episode is a snooze. I don’t even care anymore.
The Flashforward
The two of them continue to talk and Nick wants to remain best friends. The romantic future of Nick and Melissa is unclear. They talk more than they did before and Melissa is glad she came on the show.
