ABC Family’s newest original docu-series The Vineyard has just begun and is already a big hit with fans. The series is set against the backdrop of Martha’s Vineyard, MA and features a mix of locals during the Summer season. Among the cast, is Luis D’Agostino. His bio may describe him as a hopeless romantic looking for love, but he is much more than that.
We got the chance to chat with Luis about his time at the Vineyard, his amazing fans, his relationships with the cast, and what’s next for him now that filming has ended.
Check out our interview with Luis D’Agostino here:
Pop City Life: First of all, congrats on the success of The Vineyard!
Luis D’Agostino: Thank you very much. People seem to like it so it’s going well.
PCL: I was hoping you could talk a little bit about how you got involved with the show.
Luis: It was kind of a fluke how I got involved. I was walking around Boston and someone asked me if I had ever thought about being in a reality show. I went through the interview process and I didn’t expect to have this at my feet. They seemed to like what they saw and it kinda happened so fast. I didn’t have time to think about it.
PCL: I think The Vineyard is a little different than other shows on the network right now. I think it’s the only reality show at the moment. For viewers that haven’t seen it yet, how would you describe the show and what they can expect in the first season?
Luis: No matter how old you are, there’s a person on the show that you’ll be able to relate to. You’ll be able to watch this and say to yourself “I’m going through the same thing” or “Wow, what she just said completely epitomizes my situation.” Or “I’m in that same hole or on that same climb.”
That’s the cool thing. We’re real people. We’re not playing characters. I think that it relates on a different level with people. And it’s shot so beautifully… that sounds so corny but it kind of transcends the reality genre. Most reality shows I wouldn’t be too attracted to. It’s amazing to have my real life on television. I hope it helps someone else as much as it helps me because I’m really beginning to figure myself out on the show.
PCL: I know you’re active on both Twitter and Instagram. You love chatting with the fans. How has the fan support been since the show started?
Luis: Personally, the fans that I’ve met online have been FREAKING AWESOME. And you can put that in caps. The majority of them are female from 13-25. There’s even a lot of older women who reach out and say “You’re a great kid.” They’re so awesome and I try to talk with as many people as possible because I don’t look at myself as a celebrity.
I’m a regular guy. It’s fun and most of the reception on a personal level has all been positive. There has been some negative reception of the show but even with those people, once I reach out to them and ask what specifically they didn’t like they’re like “Oh, I didn’t really mean that.” Some people say “Your acting is terrible.” I have to explain that I’m not acting. It’s a reality show. That kind of clears things up for most people. I guess that it’s about 70/30 positive/negative. That’s pretty good.
PCL: Your bio lists you as a hopeless romantic looking for love. I was wondering if you could talk a little bit about the relationships on the show and if you guys keep in touch at all now that filming as ended.
Luis: I’ll tell ya right now, I didn’t write that bio. *laughs* Because I’m not a hopeless romantic. Am I looking for love? Yes. Am I still looking for love? Um, well. You’re gonna have to wait to find out. I call myself a renaissance man as opposed to a hopeless romantic. I definitely keep in touch with the majority of the people in the house and the Black Dog Tavern people I work with. We’re very tight. We’re not too far away from each other. It’s really nice.
PCL: Do you have a favorite memory from your time filming at the Vineyard?
Luis: From what you’ve seen, the picnic on my birthday was pretty awesome. That was a surprise. It was overwhelming to have someone go that over the top for me. It was very endearing and it meant a lot to me. I enjoyed cooking lobster on the beach, watching the sunrise. You don’t really know how beautiful a sunrise can be until you wake up to it on the beach next to someone you want to be with.
PCL: What’s next for you now that filming has ended?
Luis: I work a lot and once filming stopped I kept on working. Hopefully, we can come back to the Vineyard and keep going. Until then, just working. As far as my relationship, you’ll find out very soon.
We’d like to thank Luis for taking the time to chat with us. We really appreciate it.
