Ever feel like you’ve seen a ghost? If you watched this week’s Switched at Birth, the answer is probably yes. Read on for five things we learned during Switched at Birth 5×07, “Memory (The Heart).”
1. Angelo’s back.
Well, at least in spirit. Since Daphne met Ally in Switched at Birth 5×06, the emotions of the Kennish-Vasquez clan have been running high. Bay embraces Ally as family, while Daphne grows suspicious about her story and Regina wants nothing to do with any of the recipients of Angelo’s organs. In a nutshell, Ally isn’t exactly who she says she is – but the part about her being the recipient of Angelo’s donor heart is true. Actor Gilles Marini makes an emotional guest appearance to encourage Daphne to give Ally a second chance, and Bay and Regina ultimately soften as well. And how about that final scene in Switched at Birth 5×07 when Regina hugs Ally and says “I feel him – I feel his heart”? …I’m not crying, you’re crying.
2. Kathryn’s getting ahead of herself.
Five seasons into Switched at Birth, we know how Kathryn operates. In short, she has a huge heart, but her single-mindedness can sometimes alienate others. Switched at Birth 5×07 is no exception, as she decides to set a date for baby Carlton’s baptism before Toby and Lily even have the chance to discuss how they want to raise their child. Following a disastrous meeting between Lily and Kathryn’s priest, Lily decides that raising Carlton as Jewish is important to her. Toby is fully supportive to the point of planning to take some classes, which Kathryn eventually expresses an interest in as well.
3. Travis and Emmett are bros again.
Like bros as in friends, but also as in brothers. Things come to a head at Melody’s birthday dinner when Emmett accuses Travis of stealing “my mom, my girl, my friends … my whole life.” After Emmett storms off, Melody explains to Travis, “You’re thriving and he’s really struggling.” When Travis finds Emmett and apologizes, Emmett says going through everything without Travis or Bay makes things harder, and Travis says he’s there for Emmett and is OK with Bay being Emmett’s friend.
4. Cellular memory might be a thing.
People who ascribe to the idea of “cellular memory” believe that the body’s cells store memories, likes, dislikes, etc. – which means organ transplant patients could theoretically inherit traits from donors. Early in Switched at Birth 5×07, Ally feigns having picked up some of Angelo’s interests and later comes clean, but there’s no explanation for the fact that Ally’s favorite necklace matches a prism keychain Angelo gave Regina before he died…
5. Bay likes the classics.
I mean, she shows up at Travis’ place in a trench coat with nothing underneath. Enough said.
