Switched at Birth fans have a shocking cliffhanger ahead during tonight’s season 4 finale. We had the pleasure of talking with series star Vanessa Marano about the shocker that “Came out of nowhere”, what’s ahead for Bay’s love life, and her excitement at the series being renewed for season 5.
Read on for our exclusive interview with Vanessa Marano on Switched at Birth 4×20:
Congratulations on the season 5 renewal!
Thank you! I’m pretty pumped about it.
How did you react when you found out? We were talking to DW earlier and we thought his phone might blow up.
Hahaha. There was a lot of back and forth. I was alone in my living room and I got a text from the creator and she was like “We were picked up for season 5! Don’t. Say. Anything. Until there’s an official announcement.” Not even a minute later I got a text and it was all over the internet within like 30 seconds. It was so funny.
I’m so stoked to see where the show is gonna go. This season has been crazy, especially for Bay who has had her ups and downs in the love department this season.
EVERY season she has her ups and downs. Even now she’s dating Garrett, casually dating, and in the finale she’s gonna find out that Travis is hopelessly in love with her. Bay, for the first time ever, everyone wants Bay. It’s been 4 seasons of everyone picking Daphne over Bay. It’s the first season where she has her pick of the boys.
You and Garrett (played by Nyle DiMarco) are both so beautiful, it’s like a beauty sandwich I think.
That is really sweet to put me on the level of beauty that he has. That is so kind of you. He is literally so pretty, it’s insane. I had this conversation with Constance where we were like “Why are you that pretty, you’re making me look bad.” That’s very sweet of you. He’s so great, he was like turning all the heterosexual males. They were like “That is a beautiful man. I can’t deny that.”
Travis is kind of thrown into the mix now with his feelings for Bay. What can you tell us about what we can expect from that?
It’s gonna get resolved, that’s for sure. She’s very surprised by it, she’s not expecting that. That kind of forces her to see that possibility and how she feels about that. She really doesn’t know. She kind of confides in Emmett to see how she does feel because he’s always been her confidant when she needs to talk things out.
If that wasn’t tense enough, things between Bay and Regina are getting pretty heated. Is that gonna escalate in the finale as well?
Yeah, Regina did not make good decisions this season. Unfortunately, now she has to live with that and all the consequences of her choices. Which is funny because it’s usually Bay. It’s the parent-child dynamic that’s totally switched. Unintended.
Finally, I’ve been hearing some rumblings that there’s a really juicy cliffhanger that’s going to take us into season 5. I know you can’t reveal too much but what can you tell us about what the fans can look forward to about that?
It comes out of NOWHERE. *laughs* Literally, I heard about it before I read it and I was like “No. There’s no way.” And then I read it and I was like “You have got to be kidding me.” It didn’t even enter my mind that it was a possibility that we were gonna go where we go in the season finale. It’s out of nowhere. It sets up season 5 nicely so that’ll be good.
We’d like to thank Vanessa Marano, once again, for taking the time to chat with us!
