Read on for our exclusive interview with Matthew Kevin Anderson below:
Can you talk a little about how you got into acting and entertainment? Was there anyone who influenced or inspired you?
I was always interested in performing from a young age. My first role was one of The Lollipop Guild in The Wizard of Oz in grade 2. I think I was the guy in blue on the far right. I remember I had to hold this massive lollipop every show but I wasn’t aloud to eat it until we finished the run. It was agony. That should have been a red flag for me but I guess hindsight is 20/20.
I don’t know if anyone in particular inspired me. My music teacher said I had a good voice and was always pushing me to join the choir but I preferred musicals and plays. So maybe it was my music teacher’s fault…
TV Land’s new original series Impastor just recently premiered. Can you talk a little about your role on the show and what attracted you to it?
I play Detective Lovello. I’m on the case with my partner Hyde (Jonathan Young) to try and discover what happened to Buddy Dobbs (Michael Rosenbaum) who, we think, committed suicide and left a note behind in his car but no body. It’s not as serious as it sounds. We aren’t very good at our job.
I just recently binged the first couple of episodes and I’m loving it. What can the fans expect from the upcoming episodes?
More shenanigans. The pressure continues to build for Buddy and everyone circles in on him. It’s great to watch Michael as this guy constantly trying to keep his head above water.
With his bumbling partner at his side, will your character be getting himself into any more awkward and hilarious situations?
That you will have to wait and see. I love TV because you really get to find a groove with your character, with every episode you become more and more comfortable and you get more room to play. We did a lot of improv in some of the scenes. I have no idea what will end up in each episode, so watching every week is like a surprise for me as well. IT’S LIKE A KINDER SURPRISE!

On that note, how has it been working with this talented and incredible cast?
It was awesome. I wish we got to do more. Christopher Vane put together such an awesome group of people. But Lovello and Hyde live in their own world for a lot of the show. It felt like Jonathan Young and I were in our own hilarious buddy cop show.
What would you say makes this series stand out from others out there?
It’s pretty different from anything I’ve seen before. It has this funny mix of highbrow and lowbrow comedy. You have the light, cute, small town church community mixing with the seedy underbelly brought in by this low life from the big city. It’s a fine balance but it works well.
You will also be starring in the highly anticipated Lifetime Original Movie “The Unauthorized Full House Story” in the role of series creator Jeff Franklin. Tell us a little about this role and what attracted you to it.
It’s the year of Full House!!! I was interested because everyone was already talking about Full House on Netflix and the reunion show. People were watching it again and I thought the timing of the Lifetime movie was great. Plus I got to play the creator, which was very cool. I like playing the boss!
Were you a fan of the original series? Was it difficult for you at all to channel a character that’s based on a real person?
I must have watched it when I was younger. I was definitely aware of the show and what it was about. The great part about playing Jeff Franklin was that he was behind the scenes. I didn’t have a character from the show that everyone would be comparing me too so that gave me the freedom to make him my own. Plus, 80’s wardrobe is a real good time, let me tell you… I had a lot of fun playing that role.
What else can we expect from the movie? Should we stock up on the popcorn?
Yes, get your popcorn ready. There are great little anecdotes and moments taken from real life stories and put into the movie. Fans of the show will learn about some fun insider drama that happened behind the scenes.
Is there anything else you’re working on that the fans should look out for?
I’m doing a fun series of movies for Hallmark Channel called The Gourmet Detective. We have a blast making them and they are a lot of fun to watch. Dylan Neal and Brooke Burns have great chemistry as the leads and it’s a hoot. The second one airs August 2nd and we are looking to shoot number 3 in the fall.
How has the support been on social media? Do you enjoy interacting with the fans?
I love Instagram because I’m a visual person… I’m getting better at Twitter. I enjoy it for sure but I also run a pretty hectic life so I’m not on there all day. Fans are awesome. Their support allows me to do what I do so I always love talking to fans.
