Check out our exclusive interview with Jedidiah Goodacre below:
What inspired you to get into acting? Was there anyone who inspired or influenced you?
I first watched Ace Ventura: Pet Detective and was obsessed with Jim Carrey. After years of not wanting to do conventional schooling and being a constant class clown I decided to take my passion for story telling to the next level – reality. My older brother Jeremiah was always very good at doing impressions of people as well, so naturally I followed suit.
You have already compiled an impressive list of co-stars in your career. How has it been working alongside actors like Christian Slater, Zendaya Coleman, Rob Lowe, and Danny Glover?
I have worked with people like Charlie Carver, Lucas Till and Boo Boo Stewart. These three guys, to me, have been role models for handling themselves professionally and treating everyone around them as equal. I try to learn as much as I can from anyone I work with, big resume or small.
Is there anyone you’d love to work with someday, if you could pick anyone?
There are 3 living men that I would probably do anything to work with: Jim Carrey, Ryan Gosling, and Kevin Spacey. These three do it all for me. I wouldn’t mind working with Selena Gomez or Eva Mendez either ;).
Can you talk a little about your experience filming ‘Zapped’ and your character for those who haven’t seen the movie yet?
Filming Zapped was so much fun! Our director Peter Deluise was such a bright presence to be around and so were the rest of the cast and crew. Zendaya is an amazing singer and dancer, and a real role model, I think, for young girls everywhere to do what they love. I became close friends with Zachary Gibson during the filming, one of the dark dancers, and now he and I are working together on Descendants as Chad Charming and Doug Dopey.
How pleased are you with the success of Zapped? How has the fan support been and are you looking forward to the inevitable “big things to come” once Descendants premieres?
I am very pleased with all of the supports and the large viewership this movie was able to reach. I have received a lot of positive feedback, and I have heard many good things about the movie. I thought it was cute and funny, and perfect for a summer laugh with some friends. I can’t wait for people to see what Descendants has to offer. I think it’s a strong story with a lot of fun and loveable characters. I think its going to hit the right note at the right time!
‘Descendant’s is unlike your regular Disney Channel Original Movie. The buzz surrounding it just continues to grow and big names like Kristin Chenoweth and Kathy Najimy have signed on to star. What can viewers expect from Descendants when it premieres?
When Descendants premieres you can’t expect anything! Our captain and director, Kenny Ortega, seems to have a special gift of creating something like anyone has ever seen before. It is unlike anything I’ve been a part of or seen for sure. The story hits people in the heart while keeping you smiling and laughing the whole way through. The dancing and the songs are amazing in so many ways with such a talented cast and crew; it was an absolute pleasure, I could only hope to work with them all again. Expect big things from Descendants 🙂
How did you prepare for the role? Has your background in athletics come in handy?
Preparing for this role took a bit more work than usual for me. I was pretty sure I had a grasp on the charming part of things but I was nervous about the dancing (though I’d never say it). We all spent many long days rehearsing and learning new choreography, but since I was new it, I had to do about 3-5 hours extra rehearsing at home to keep up the other amazing professional dancers. The choreography team was very, very helpful in getting my two left feet to move in a way that looks good. I think they did it ;). Growing up playing sports and just being interested in health and fitness in general helped big time with all the rehearsals and shoots because I was already quite comfortable and aware of my body, and eating healthy and getting sleep was key.
Were you a Disney fan yourself growing up? Did you have any favorite characters or movies?
When I was young the first movie I saw in theatres was ‘The Lion King’. I wanted to experience a journey like Simba so bad, sometimes I would wish I was a lion and had to hunt for food to survive, haha. I also have a beautiful dog, Zooko, who is my best friend and he looks like Scar. The Lion King is definitely my favourite Disney movie.
We’d like to thank Jedidiah Goodacre for taking the time to answer some questions for us! We really appreciate it.
Be sure to check out “Zapped” as it currently airs on the Disney Channel. “Descendants” will make its highly anticipated debut on the Disney Channel in 2015.
