True Blood returned with one bloody hell of an episode. A major character dies within the first 5 minutes as a new war on vampires divides the town.
Read on for our recap of True Blood 7×01: “Jesus Gonna Be Here” below: MAJOR SPOILERS:
I wish that meant Jesus’ character. Kevin Alejandro was so fine.
Well, the party’s over before it begins as rogue Hep V infected vampires storm the bar and all the townspeople there. It’s a literal blood bath and people are being torn apart or taken around every corner. Holly, Arlene, and Sam’s pregnant girlfriend are kidnapped before a far-off whistle immediately calls the attackers at the party away. Who is controlling them?
Sadly, there are casualties. Sookie and her friends round a corner to discover a weeping Lettie Mae on the ground, covered in goo. Tara met the true death. Tara DIES. WHAT? And it’s going to stick? It didn’t even happen on camera! What a horrible way for a fan-favorite to go. However, later in the episode, Lettie Mae claims to be having visions of Tara. Is this just her regular brand of crazy or will we be seeing Tara in some other way?
Sam and Bill attempt to keep up the plan of “One Vampire Per Human” as they try to make sense of this mess. Jessica vows to keep Adalynn safe when Andy leaves to find Holly. An infected vamp threatens the two of them and Adalynn is forced to drink Jessica’s blood and invite her in for safety. How will that play out? Jessica is in need of a new friend but, can she be trusted?
In other vampire pairings, Lafayette and Jessica’s boyfriend, James (now played by Nathan Parsons) bond while feeding. James reveals he had a boyfriend when he was human and I look forward to this inevitable pairing. He’s no Jesus but he’ll do.
Elsewhere, Pam is hunting for Eric. At the moment, she’s in Morocco, playing a weird and twisted game of vampire Russian roulette. Will she find her maker soon? And how bad will his tan be? And did we mention her amazing lines are back?
“Your God and my God can go to a motel and have a circle jerk for all I care; I’ll be in hell, having a three-way with the devil.”
Back in town, there’s a douchey politician who I’m hoping is killed really quickly, and Sookie and Alcide are having their first fight. Sookie is overwhelmed with angry thoughts of the town blaming her for the attack, calling her a whore, and even Alcide blaming her for being involved with vampires. They make up quick enough in a scene where Anna Paquin shows off her amazing post-pregnancy body.
The rest of the town? Not so quick. After Lettie Mae loudly blames Sookie for Tara’s death, Sookie tells them all off and begs them to let her help make things right. Will she succeed?
