Well, that was quick. ABC Family has already decided to cancel new series Alice In Arabia before the pilot episode aired. The series has been the subject of controversy when the subject matter became known. Many thought the program didn’t fit in with the network and would contain offensive stereotypes. The network has listened to the concerns and pulled the plug.
“The current conversation surrounding our pilot was not what we had envisioned and is certainly not conducive to the creative process, so we’ve decided not to move forward with this project.”
A similar problem occurred when Devious Maids was first announced. After first being passed up by one network, Lifetime snatched it up. The network faced backlash for stereotyping Latina women for house cleaning. That series has become quite a success for the network.
Alice in Arabia is just one of two curious new series from ABC Family. The other, “Chasing Life” seems to be an odd match-up with hit mystery drama Pretty Little Liars.
ABC Family recently announced their 2014 Summer programming schedule. Be sure to check that out.
