We weren’t ready for this one. Not even sort of.
The episode starts off with Deaton saving Isaac, Ethan, and Aiden from the control of the Nogitsune by removing the flies from them. He tells them to bear it as he stuffs his hands down their throat and pulls out the little flies, killing them. When everyone is alright, Kira brings up the now two Stiles’ and the missing Lydia, and asks how they are supposed to know the difference between the Stiles’, Deaton says he doesn’t know.
In the McCall house, Melissa has Stiles laying on the bed and is checking all his vital signs to make sure he’s okay. She’s smiles and says that he’s definitely human and he seems to be fine. Scott comes in saying that ‘she’s here’ and Stiles goes downstairs to submit himself to be checked by Mrs. Yukimura. The Oni appear and check Stiles, leaving everyone revealed when they leave the ‘self’ symbol behind his ear.
Lydia is in a dark, damp hallway, wandering around slowly, listening to the screams of the patients that used to be there. Nogitsune Stiles appears saying, ‘It’s louder isn’t it? The screams. What are the voices saying?’ Lydia tries to move away, but the screams continue to grow louder, and she can’t seem to move as fast as she would like. Nogitsune Stiles says that the voices are telling her tat Stiles is dying. He asks her what else she hears. Lydia swears she won’t tell him anything. He doesn’t have to. She’ll be screaming. Lydia starts to yell.
Kira is restless in her house waiting for sme kind of news about Stiles or Lydia. Mrs. Yukimura decides to show her the game Go, claiming that it is symbolic considering that’s the game Stiles and the Nogitsune were playing inside his head, and it could help them win the real game that the Nogitsune is playing.
At the police station one of the new transfers is trying to get the Sheriff to go home, but he won’t until he’s heard something about Stiles. While he’s looking for his keys, Stiles walks in with Scott reminding his father where he usually keeps them. Mr. Stilinski throws his arms around his son and the reunion is heartfelt.
We change scenes for a minute to witness a brief moment between Mr. Argent and Derek, where Derek asks why Mr. Argent didn’t just shoot him during their last fight when he was possessed. Mr. Argent says that Derek is no longer his enemy, and that he is no longer Derek’s. But that they also no longer need to go hunting for the Nogitsune. With the strength that he has clearly displayed, he will come for them.
At the police station, Scott, Stiles, and the Sheriff try to figure out what the Nogitsune could be planning and why he would need Lydia. Mr. Stilinski asks Scott for insight because he knows the whole story from 70 years ago, This resonates with Stiles and he remembers a girl from the mental institution that might be able to help them. Meredith.
The twins are hunting for Lydia in the woods trying to pick up her scent when they are suddenly shot by bullets laced with wolf’s bane. They try to drag themselves away, but Derek shows up to save them. They take cover in the coyote den and Derek says he didn’t see the shooter. The twins say it was only a matter of time before one of their enemies found them.
Isaac and Allison find Lydia’s car and jump inside trying to find a clue to her whereabouts. Allison asks Isaac if during the night they spent together if he was himself or possessed. Isaac says that he was himself and that he remembered everything that happened between them. Allison smiles and they share a quiet moment together before Allison notices a message drawn onto the glass. “Don’t find me.”
At the Echo House, Mr. Stilinski goes to see Meredith where they say she’s been locked up because she won’t stop screaming. This reveals that she too, is a banshee like Lydia, but she has already escaped by the time the Sheriff gets there.
At the high school in Coach’s class, Danny notices Meredith sitting the back row, and brings attention to her.
Stiles wakes up panicked in the McCall’s living room and Scoot comes over to check on him. Stiles’s looks sicker than ever, claiming that he’s freezing. When Scott touches him he realizes he’s in pain, and ask Stiles exactly how bad it hurts. Stiles tries shrugs it off as a dull ache but it’s clear that it’s more than that. Before Scott can ask Stiles more about it, he receives a phone call from Kira telling them that Meredith is at the school. The boys take off to meet her.
Kira tries to get Coach’s help in keeping Meredith where she is, claiming that she can’t tell him everything but several students could die. The conversation is interrupted when the orderly’s from the Echo House show up. One of them seems to be an old rival of Coach and mocks him a bit before asking for Meredith. But she has already disappeared from the office.
Back at her house, Allison is cleaning and prepping weapons trying to distract herself while she waits for news. Her father comes downstairs and offers her a better way to pass the time. He tells her it’s time to graduate and offers her an official family seal for her arrowheads. Allison tells her father that she wants him to know how much she loves him and is proud of both of them, no matter what is going to happen that night. She says she was unable to tell her mother and wants to make sure she said it this time.
Back with Lydia, the Nogitsune is taunting her, asking her whether or not her friends are truly out there looking for her. Lydia asks him what he wants. He says he wants ‘more.’ He says that the all stories about foxes, crows, etc. re all about hunger and that he is hungry for something a little different. He eats what they feel, and he is insatiable.
Back at the high school, Meredith is listening to the notes of the piano trying to hear what the voices are saying. The orderly is about to take her when Coach appears saving her, and telling Scott, Kira, and Stiles to get her out of here. Kira makes sure they get to the car and then leaves. When the boys asks Meredith where to find Lydia she reveals she doesn’t know who Lydia is. When they get to Scott’s house, Agent McCall is there already with Isaac. Isaac and Stiles take Meredith upstairs to see if she can help them, while Agent McCall reveals the circumstances of his abrupt leaving when Scott was a kid. He says that while drunk he accidentally pushed Scott down the stairs. Scott claims that there have been many accidents in the house that have hurt him and he’s healed from them all just fine. He doesn’t need an apology.
Upstairs, Isaac and Stiles manage to get a clue from Meredith. She says mumble something in a different language and the boys are confused, until Scott, who heard it also says it’s French. Scott calls Allison to tell her he knows where Lydia is.
Kira goes hime looking for her mother, but her father says she’s gone. When he takes a closer look at the game of Go that Kira and his ife have been playing, he says that he recognizes his wife’s style in her pieces, but they are an aggressive style. Kira claims that’s because her mother was trying to represent the Nogitsune’s moves. Mr. Yukimura asks if she is sure about that. Meanwhile, Mrs. Yukimura is leading her Oni to the cemetery and she looks serious.
Derek and Mr. Argent manage to get the twins to a safe place, and when Mr. Argent looks at the shell casing from the wolf bane bullets that injured the twins, he recognizes something, and says, “That’s not possible.” Allison calls him to tell him they know where Lydia is and they are going to save her. Allison’s father begs her not to go, but she says they don’t have time and she has to go now.
Scott, Stiles, Allison, and Kira show up at the cemetery to rescue Lydia. There’s a brief moment of apprehension, but Scott pushes them through it, saying they have been through this before. Allison declares she’s here to save her best friend, and Scott claims he’s here to do the same thing, glancing at Stiles. They all go inside. Scott and Stiles go to find Lydia, while Kira, Allison, and Isaac face off Mrs. Yukimura. Kira claims that she now realizes that in the game of Go she wasn’t playing the Nogitsune, she was playing her mother. Before they can fight her Oni though, the Oni disappear to go find the Nogitsune. When they do, Lydia hides behind them while they encircle the Nogitsune. But this was a part of his plan. He breaks the last short knife from Mrs. Yukimura and the Oni are no longer under her control. They belong to the Nogitsune.
The Oni begin attacking Kira, Allison, and Isaac.
Scoot and Stiles find Lydia, but she isn’t happy to see them. She believes someone will die. She panics and asks who else is with them. The three of them start running back to where the others are, but Stiles is too weak and collapses. Lydia stays with him and Scott keeps going.
Back outside Allison, Kira, and Isaac aren’t doing to well. When the Oni begin to fatally slice up Isaac with their swords, Aliison takes a shot with her arrow and one of the Oni disappears. For a moment everything seems alright. Then Scott arrives just in time to see Allison get stabbed. The Nogitsune disappears with the rest of the Oni army.
Scott catches Allison and tries to take her pain away, but he can’t. She says it’s because it doesn’t hurt. He panics realizing what’s happening, but Allison tries to calm him down, saying that everything is going to be fine and thay she loves him. Then she closes her eyes, and dies in his arms.
Mr. Argent runs into the scene seeing his dead daughter in Scott’s arms.
Tonight was a heavy night. Emotions were rampant, and watching Mr. Argent go through the horror of once again losing a member of his family is particularly painful. It was especially hard to see all of the kids lose their friend. Next week is the season finale though, and it’s definitely going to be one to remember.
