We’re thrilled to announce that we had the opportunity to attend the red carpet for ABC Family’s 2013 25 Days of Christmas Winter Wonderland event in New York City. Following the red carpet, the stars of ABC Family were invited to try their luck on the ice at the iconic ice rink at Rockefeller Center.
We had the chance to chat with Constance Marie about the new season of Switched at Birth. She spills about spending the holidays in New York, what viewers can expect from Regina this season, the great guest stars we can expect (Max Adler, Sandra Bernhard, RJ Mitte, and Alec Mapa) and what’s ahead for Regina and Angelo when the show returns.
Switched at Birth returns Monday, January 13th at 8/7c on ABC Family.

Pop City Life: Are you enjoying Christmas in New York?
Constance Marie: I haven’t been allowed out of my hotel room. I flew in last night and I got up to do hair and makeup. I see the people having a good time but I haven’t gotten the chance to get out there and experience it. As soon as this is over I’m gonna go back and put on a parka. It’s super cold. I love New York, I want to smell the air. The good and the bad in the air. Smell chestnuts. But not buy them because I don’t like the way they taste.
I love Switched at Birth. I’m so excited for the new season. Regina’s had a crappy year… Daphne’s going to court. Are you going to get to relax this season?
Constance: Regina actually gets to get happy. She has a new career and a new style. And my man, who is so drama filled, gave the baby to better parents. I don’t think Angelo could have cut it. We get a chance to have a relationship. It’s a good thing, I actually get to be happy.
I’m excited for that.
Constance: I know! Regina never got to be happy before. I was tortured. John and Kathryn get a chance now. I told the writers, with the alcoholism, and lying about the switch and the hand injury..it’s amazing that America still loves me.
You guys have some great guest stars coming up. Did you get a chance to work with them? Are you excited for that?
Constance: Well, I got to see them in hair and makeup. I did not get to work with Sandra Bernhard because she was involved with Vanessa Marano’s storyline. But I get the men! I get RJ Mitte and Max Adler. That’s not bad. And Alec Mapa! I get to work with them. They’re wonderful and I love that people like that want to come be guest stars on this show. That shows that our show still has integrity for an older and younger generation.
Yeah, you’ve won a ton of awards.
Constance: Yes! Time Magazine just voted us Top 10 episodes of all television. And we beat Game of Thrones! That’s crazy right? Little Switched at Birth beat Game of Thrones!
How does it feel to be apart of such a groundbreaking show?
Constance: I’m very proud of that. I’ve been really lucky. With [The George Lopez Show]..there had never been a Latin show that went over 13 episodes in 75 years of television history. Desi Arnaz doesn’t count! To be able to do this for the deaf community, which I’ve come to love, is amazing. Young people like yourself trying to learn sign language, it’s awesome!
Since we’re celebrating Christmas, do you have a favorite tradition or movie for the holidays?
Constance: Well, it was too scary for my daughter but the Kris Kringle movies, the animated claymation ones? And Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer. I have to fast forward the snow monster. We tried last year but maybe this year she can handle it.
