We’ve got another great band for you guys to check out! Today, as fellow New Yorkers, we’re thrilled to bring you The Como Brothers Band. This NYC duo is comprised of Andrew and Matt Como and together they have just released their album “Baby Steps” on October 1st, 2013.
They must be doing something right because they’ve been able to open for major acts like The Wallflowers (who we love) and Jilian Jensen. They’ve also been apart of big music festivals like The Long Island Music Festival and the Hard Rock Rising 2013 finals at the Hard Rock Cafe. If that’s not cool enough, their music has even been featured on TV, appearing in series like The Real World: Portland and Keeping Up With The Kardashians.
The first single we sat down to listen to was “Late Night.”
You can check out the music video for that song above. Upon my first listen, I’m pleasantly surprised at the soft rock sound. It’s funny that The Como Brothers have opened for The Wallflowers because I can definitely hear that kind of sound here. Even before reading how they describe themselves, I felt a Maroon 5 vibe here, before they were singing about Mick Jagger.
The video, coupled with the sound, reminds me of “Bittersweet Symphony”. Sure, it doesn’t have the haunting strings that we all remember, but the song stays with you. It’s something I can hear on the radio, for sure.
Their next single “Straight Face” is more reminiscent of that Jason Mraz sound they might be going for. Listen to that here:
I won’t be surprised at all if this one blows up. Of the two singles so far, this one is perhaps the more radio friendly and the single I can see a crowd singing along to. I can definitely see this one being big at festivals and gigs. It’s also a great song to showcase the vocal abilities of the duo, which, in case you weren’t sure, are very talented. It’s always refreshing when a group of guys can actually sing and perform well.
If you’re in the New York area, the boys just wrapped up a performance at the Port Jefferson Music Festival on Long Island on October 12th. In case you missed that one, they will also be appearing at the New York City Marathon on November 3rd. Talk about a big crowd.
I’m really enjoying listening to this album. It’s a pleasure when a group of songs I’m meant to review are catchy, memorable, and likeable. I think you guys will love The Como Brothers Band.
